EAn Introduction
My first ever manager had some interesting ideas. I’ll spare everyone from his theory in regards to luck when shortlisting job applicants, but his one notion that I do now subscribe to, was in respect to office space. He believed that every business has a propensity to grow to fill available office space, irrespective of the original plans of the management. Well, having just moved into a considerably larger office space a few months ago, I think he was right.
It’s been as if the very fact of having significant potential suddenly opened our eyes to opportunities that we hadn’t previously explored. So here we are, with two new staff already and goodness knows what else around the corner!!
As many of you will have seen, Natasha, our intrepid co-founder and the face of EAN, has taken on a challenge that many have branded her crazy for considering. But it’s all in the name of a good cause so please, if you can, sponsor her or, even better, get your business involved and dare your boss to do something a little crazy. Take a look below for more information on how you can get involved or support Tash. But as one of our staff pointed out, if every member donated just $1 dollar we would be able to donate $6,000 towards fighting children’s cancer. $5 from every member would give an incredible $30,000 to an organisation that isn’t just working to reduce deaths in children from cancer, but actually eradicate them entirely.
Recently hundreds of you took part in our member survey, the first we have conducted in several years. We have a short article below on the major findings but, first and foremost, we would like to thank all of you who have participated in the survey. We really do appreciate it and we have already been discussing the feedback as a team and looking at items we can think about actioning in the short and medium term. Also a special thank you to those who so kindly gave us testimonials for the website. We really appreciate your support and kind words.
Our next round of Diploma intakes are due to kick off throughout the latter part of September and into October, and we already have great numbers for most of the courses. Typically we receive most registrations in the last four to five weeks so we know this will be another great intake as more and more people register. If you have been thinking about getting involved, now is a great time as we head into the latter part of the year. Just think, by this time next year you could be completing your diploma and almost have your certificate in your hand. And then, well who knows where your career might take off to!
Our Brisbane conference has sold exceptionally well and we have already turned our focus to our Melbourne conference as we look to eclipse the record numbers in Victoria of the past two years. If you haven’t yet looked into the program, have a look at the article below which we ran previously. It perfectly encapsulates why this conference was such a huge hit with delegates in Sydney and Canberra. The takeaways in terms of real and practical tools are a very unique factor of the program this year that we know delegates have loved.
But whilst we are winding down our marketing of the Brisbane conference, we are only now really starting to promote the Brisbane exhibition which this year is going to be bigger than ever before. Keep an eye out for specific marketing for the Brisbane expo and the Networking drinks on day one, and don’t miss out on being there. It’s a great and really worthwhile exhibition and a lot of fun – and you can network extensively with other EAs and PAs which is also great for your career. So why wouldn’t you want to attend.
As highlighted earlier, we have some exciting news in relation to changes of personnel at EAN. We have two new members of staff, both working in the Education & Training areas and specially focussed on promoting our training and education capabilities to EAs and their broader organisations. We will include more details on Tracey and Robert in a future edition but their profiles will also be on the website where you can see more of what they do.
And finally, we need to announce a change of the guard in the management of the Education & Training division. Shane Garrott is departing EAN but we are very pleased to announce that we do have a replacement lined up called Kate Doyle. Kate has an exceptional reputation within the Vocational Education and Training arena, including many years running her own consultancy. We are exceptionally pleased she has joined the team and will bring you more details about her as soon as possible.
We trust you will enjoy this September edition of The Assistant – but we are already working on the next edition and in particular, in bringing some of the extra elements people requested in the survey to the newsletter.

Record Numbers of Delegates

With record numbers of delegates having just attended our Canberra conference, and having received amazing feedback on the program, it’s now time for us to turn our attention to our Brisbane and Melbourne conferences, both of which are taking registrations now.
Not that we are at all biased, but the content this year is simply sensational.

Perth Celebrating 10 Years of EAN

EAN 10 Year Celebration for our Perth Members at Rendezvous Hotel
It was a cool, wet Perth evening outside but inside at Perth’s Rendezvous Hotel a warm tropical welcome awaited. EAN’s 10-year celebration was a fantastic success with the staff of TFE’s Rendezvous Hotel really going the extra mile to throw a truly memorable networking function.
The hotel staff had spent all day decorating the venue with a tropical theme including bamboo bars, surfboards, deck chairs and even a sandy beach to boot. The oyster bar, margaritas, incredible 10-year anniversary cake and Chef’s amazing Hawaiian inspired food were a hit with attendees who without doubt greatly enjoyed the evening.

Aligning EAs and Their Executives – the EAN Partnership Model Program
Achieving a successful working partnership between EA and Executive is a must if the output of both, what they achieve as the embodiment of the executive office, is to be as productive as it can be.
In any discussions around effectiveness, efficiency and delivery, issues of capabilities, skills and knowledge are always going to be essential, but so to is ensuring that the very relationship at the core of the partnership is functioning effectively.

EAN Member Survey August 2016

In August 2106 we conducted a member survey in NSW and VIC, the first large scale member survey focussed on membership views and opinions that we have conducted in many years.
Thank you to all those people who participated and helped us to get a better understanding of the impact of the services we offer, how you perceive the website, as well as our newsletter, education and training and other elements of what we do and offer to members.
Whilst we know that providing comprehensive analysis of the results would probably send most of you off to sleep, we did want to highlight a few key findings we believe you will find interesting.
The most important thing to know is that we segregated the survey so that we would get comparable results for Associate Members and Full Members.

EAN’s own Natasha Cannon has bravely accepted our challenge to conquer her darkest fears for a cause that is near and dear to all of our hearts. On October 19th, Tash will be spending a ghoulish night at Australia’s most haunted place, as part of a ghostly experience at Q Station at Manly, and we need your help.
EAN is a proud partner of the Children’s Cancer Institute, and we are very excited (and Tash a little scared) to be taking part in their Dare the Boss campaign to help cure childhood cancer. All over the country bosses will be taken out of their comfort zone as their colleagues find zany, fun and downright scary challenges for them to undertake to help raise vital funds for this worthwhile cause. To lead the way and help grow support and awareness, Tash and Executive Assistant Network are getting the ball rolling.
