Welcome to our September 2017 Edition of The Assistant

It is great to finally say goodbye to Winter and the dark uncertainties it brings, and hello to Spring and the boundless potential that comes with it. The changing of the seasons is always a great time to take stock of where things are at, and to inevitably clean house to remove the unnecessary and prioritise what you have and what you need. 

At EAN we are looking forward to busy and exciting times right around the country. As I write this we have just come back from Brisbane where we had our annual Congress series at the Pullman Brisbane- and this year saw record numbers at both the conference and the expo. We also saw some of you in our first ever classes of -The Proactive and Strategic Partner- An EA Masterclass. We held 2 classes in Sydney and Melbourne over the previous couple of weeks and the sessions went even better than we could have hoped for. In fact, based on the response we have decided to roll out this brand new course around the country- so check out the website now for session details. 

The next classes of the EAN diploma are starting now, so you might see some of your colleagues looking busier than normal as they head back to the classroom. We have a jam-packed networking event schedule with 3 more events scheduled for the remainder of September alone.

How to fix your 'sitting' problem

While there are many advantages to working as an Executive Assistant, one of the disadvantages is that it's a job where sitting typically makes up much of your day. Sitting for sustained periods of time has been linked to many health complications, including obesity, cardiovascular problems and even cancer, according to Mayo Clinic. But being in an office doesn't necessitate you sitting. Standing desks or Swiss balls are options that can mitigate - or even
eliminate - the negative effects of sitting.

Swiss balls are great options for those that still need to sit, but don't want to be stuck in a chair. They can be great for tuning up your posture, as you can't sit comfortably on one if you're slouched. But remember, regardless of your seating, it's still possible to sit sloppily, so make sure you're not lapsing into bad postural habits.

It'll strengthen your core too, as you'll be constantly making micro adjustments to keep your balance. It's recommended that you start slow and integrate ball and chair sitting until you're strong enough to change to just a ball - it can be hard work!

The spotlight will shine on P&O Cruises’ Pacific Eden this month, having emerged from a multi-million dollar dry dock with two newly refurbished theatres.

The 55,820-tonne vessel completed a 12-day transformation in Singapore ahead of the start of what was to be her highly-anticipated Cairns cruise season. Pacific Eden will home-port from Sydney from November 2017.

Pacific Eden’s two-storey Marquee Show Theatre has been given a stylish new look and feel with a dramatic black, white and emerald-green colour scheme, custom wallpaper and unique artworks.
