Welcome to our May 2018 Edition of The Assistant

With the season's changing and a crispness in the air, it is a good time to take stock of where the year is headed. Just around the corner is our annual eofys membership sale, which seems to get bigger and bigger every year, so keep an eye out for this yearly saving later in the month of May. The next stop in our Masterclass Conference series takes us to Canberra in July, and early signs indicate that lots of our Canberra friends will be joining us. We have a plethora of new networking events around the country being added to the calendar as we speak, so keep an eye on the networking events page under the member resources section.

There has been massive interest from around the world in our new book- The New Executive Assistant, and with the first print run having sold out we are onto to the second print run.

Our 2018 Conference Series launched in Sydney mid March at the iconic Luna Park and it was a huge success. The Series topic– EA Masterclass – truly hit home to our Sydney Delegates, providing valuable insight and knowledge for workplace and personal lives. The range of knowledge, experience and sound expert advice from our Speakers truly resonated with our delegates. Delegates had a wonderful 2 days, engaging in the Conference Series, Networking through the exhibition hall and mingling at the Gala Dinner - after a hilarious Comedy Ventriliquoist, some drumming and dancing to end!

1. Networking introduces you to new perspectives

If there's one thing every person needs to be aware of in this social-media-heavy age, it's being trapped inside our own bubbles - of perspective, of opinion, of age, of whatever. When everything around you becomes the same and predictable, you can never be too sure whether you're missing another valid point of view.

A broad professional network helps you avoid this potential myopia. When you know people with diverse opinions, skills and backgrounds, you can ask them their view when required. But no network means you're always stuck with your own opinions, thoughts and ideas - limiting potential growth.

I was sitting on the floor surrounded by a sea of ‘cry cards’ – what are ‘cry cards’ you ask? They are a collection of cards that evoke emotion deep within. They are the gifts of love from family and friends from over the years that I have kept in boxes. Tears may fall whether from the joy and love that arises or the sadness of loss knowing there will be no more cards from this particular person.
