Winter is upon us and with that we are deep into our highly anticipated EOFY membership sale. If you haven't yet taken advantage of this yearly sale then now is the time - over half of our full members enjoy this opportunity every year.

The next stop in our Masterclass Conference series takes us to Canberra in July, and early signs indicate that lots of our Canberra friends will be joining us.  We are also taking registrations for our Brisbane conference in September, and at this early stage it is on track to be our biggest ever event - keep up the good work Queensland. We have a plethora of new networking events around the country being added to the calendar as we speak, so keep an eye on the networking events page under the member resources section.

Our renowned National Partner Nespresso Professional co-hosted with Westin Hotel Perth a truly fantastic event in Perth. Held in the newly renovated, much anticipated Westin Hotel, Mallee and Eucalypt Rooms, the night was a huge success. Take control of your engagement at work

Employee engagement is in a pretty dismal state. A staggering 87 per cent of employees are not engaged in their work according to Gallup. The common narrative that emerges these days is engagement is more or less out of the individual's hands - that it has more to do with the organisation, the job description, the company culture - things, in other words, that aren't determined by the employee.

While this is true to some extent, it's a mistake to relinquish all responsibility for your personal engagement in your job. There are things EAs can do to engage themselves better in their work.

Email. It’s all our Fault.

Chances are you’ve never seen this picture before – it’s the image you get when you reach zero inbox in Outlook. I don’t mean to brag (I really do), but I see this twice a day on weekdays.

‘I wish’ you are probably thinking. But are you really?

I have three theories about emails. Firstly, they are a status symbol for how busy and important you are. How often have you or a colleague said ‘I’ve been away for one day and I come back to 125 new emails, what is that?’ or something similar.

Secondly, we use our email inbox as a really poor default ‘to do’ list. Don’t have time to do it now, fine, just leave it there for later. So you leave it there for later, and then read it again, but you don’t have time for it now so you just leave it there for later. And so the cycle continues. It’s a terrible to do list because it keeps getting longer, so of course you don’t have time to do it.
